'Vital look at racism and police violence'- <The Hate U Give>

Portrait
Angie Thomas was not a familiar author name but the title and the caption of 'HATE'. That's what I was drawn to. Now (I'm not sure about the exact period because the book has been out since long time ago but honeestly I've just finished it like two days ago) it's New York Times #1 Best Seller book 'The Hate U Give'is about sixteen year old Starr Carter. She witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend, Khalil, at the hands of a police officer when he was completely unarmed. The story pretty much spreads afterwards since the first chapter rapidly portraits the scene of the party which happened that night.
After reading the book, the keyword that entered my mind was...how can NOTHING has changed since I left US. Friend's frequent tales about how they were pulled over for nothing and everyday-shooting-incident by police towards innocent dark skin tonned neighbors was not a national headline back then when I was living in Cali. It was just quotidien news. O Well, haven't been back for quite a long time so I can't really tell what's going on there but the start of the plot captured my attention pretty quickly.
"Love you," he says,
See, that's why I hate it when somebody dies. People do stuff they wouldn't usually do. Even Momma hugs me longer and tighter with more sympathy than "just because" in it.
What the author trying to say has clearly embarked a huge impact on society now, and I'm just glad that more of these kind of books come out in the world for us to read and acknowledge that it's not just novel, it's what reflects through ourselves. So far, best novel I've read this year.
